Round 10 Preview

Your guide to Saturday's action in The Championship.

This weekend marks the nominal half way point in the 2023/24 Championship season, and what a campaign it is shaping up to be. As we head into Round 10, just nine points separate the top seven teams in the league, with Ealing Trailfinders once again setting the pace early on, but - as the league leaders have already found out - there are no foregone conclusions in the Championship...and this weekend's line up might just be the most unpredictable round yet.

With 10 teams in action tomorrow, we're set for a bumper Saturday afternoon in The Championship:

Fresh from a stunning win at Castle Park in Round 9, Ampthill welcome Ealing Trailfinders to Dillingham Park. Just nine points separated the two teams when they last met in the league back in January 2023, but The Mob will have to be at their absolute best if they are to halt the West London juggernaut from banking their seventh win of the season.

Hartpury return to action after a bye week and travel to Paton Field to face Caldy. The Cherries have come out on top in this fixture on both of their previous meetings, but almost nothing separates the two sides this season in what should be a hard-fought encounter between eighth and ninth.

Cornish Pirates and Nottingham meet at The Mennaye, with the two sides heading into this fixture in contrasting form. The Pirates have won their last two and sit third in the table, while The Archers, after a blistering start to the season, have lost their last two and have slipped to seventh. The hosts have won their last three meetings against Nottingham, and another win could see the Westcountry outfit climb to second in the table, pending other results.

Doncaster Knights welcome Bedford Blues in a much-anticipated clash between two of the Championship's traditional heavyweights. The Knights will be desperate to make amends for back-to-back defeats in recent weeks, but face a resurgent Blues side that have won four of their last five outings, and boast the league's leading try scorer in Sean French. Doncaster sit one place and one point ahead of Bedford in the table, and if recent results between these two sides are anything to go by, fans at Castle Park can expect a high-scoring, hard-fought match [who could forget last season's 42-42 draw in the reverse fixture at Goldington Road?].

In Saturday's 15:00 kick-off, London Scottish host Coventry at The RAG. The visitors are enjoying a fine spell of form, with three wins from their last three matches, but haven't played since their New Year's Day trip to Bedford Blues 18 days ago, and come up against an ever-improving Exiles side whose last three defeats have all been by agonisingly-close two-point margins.

Here's a reminder of how the table looks after nine rounds:
