Round 14 Team News

Take a look at how the sides line up this weekend in The Championship.

The Championship continues this weekend, with the second round of a three-block series of fixtures without a break. The action kicks off tonight at The Alpas Arena, where an in-form Hartpury take on Cambridge in the opening match of Round 14.

A Hartpury win tonight would see the Westcountry outfit go 4 from their last 5 in The Championship and close the gap on Bedford Blues, who have a BYE round this weekend. Cambridge lost the reverse fixture 22-40 earlier this season, but picked up two valuable wins in recent weeks, so don't write off the underdogs just yet.

A much-changed Ampthill side host London Scottish at Dillingham Park. The Mob have slipped to eighth in the table having lost their last three matches, but ring nine changes for the visit of London Scottish. The Exiles were denied their second win of the season last week due to a last-minute touchline conversion from Caldy, and will be hungry to get on the right side of a string of narrow defeats.

Cornish Pirates' impressive run came to an end against the league leaders in Round 12, and the men from Penzance will be looking for a return to winning ways at Paton Field. The Pirates posted a 49-22 win against Caldy when the two sides met at The Mennaye in November, but Caldy will be buoyed by last week's impressive fightback against London Scottish and are no strangers to turning over higher-ranked teams at home.

With one point separating the four teams jostling to lead the chasing pack behind Ealing Trailfinders, both Doncaster Knights and Coventry have a valuable opportunity to get an edge over a rival this weekend. The stats suggest this game is on a knife-edge: 2nd vs 3rd, 13 wins to 14 in previous meetings, both teams on 39 points. Coventry blew the Knights away earlier this season, but good luck picking the winner this Saturday.

Ealing Trailfinders will be red hot favourites to bank their 11th win of the season when they take on Nottingham in West London. The Trailfinders are in the midst of a rich vein of form that sees them sitting 12 points clear at the top of the table. The Archers have produced some exhilarating rugby this season and will back themselves to produce more moments of magic on a dry track at the Trailfinders Sports Ground. Whatever the final score, this match is all but guaranteed to be an entertaining one between two teams with contrasting styles of play.
