Round 6 Round-Up

Catch up on the weekend's action in The Championship.

If someone had suggested last week that Cambridge would come within three points of Nottingham, London Scottish would beat Ealing Trailfinders, and Hartpury would put 47 points on Coventry at Butts Park Arena, you'd have been forgiven for raising an eyebrow or two...but that's exactly what happened over the weekend in the Championship in one of the most unpredictable rounds in recent memory.

Cambridge and Nottingham kicked off the weekend's action at Lady Bay on Friday night. A frantic first half saw both sides run in three tries each, with the visitors' two conversions to the Archers' one the only difference at the break. Jack Dickinson's try four minutes after the restart was the only score of the second half, as the hosts closed out a narrow bonus-point win.

Caldy versus Bedford Blues was postponed shortly before kick off due to parts of the Paton Field pitch being frozen. The fixture will be reviewed at the Disputes Committee on Tuesday, 5 December, to confirm the outcome of the game.

London Scottish pulled off the biggest upset of the season so far with a stunning win against top-of-the-table Ealing Trailfinders. The two sides went toe-to-toe for 80 minutes, with Jack Musk's 80th minute score, followed by an Alex Lloyd-Seed conversion giving the Exiles their first win of the season in a dramatic finale at The RAG.

Hartpury produced one of their biggest results in The Championship, with a convincing win at Coventry. Two points separated the sides at the break, but the visitors pulled away in the second half, running in seven tries in total, including a brace from Josh Gray. Hartpury's second win of the campaign sees them remain in eighth place but move to within one point of their Round 6 opponents.

Doncaster Knights closed the gap on Ealing Trailfinders at the top of the table with a dogged win against Cornish Pirates at The Mennaye. The visitors came out firing with two tries inside the opening four minutes and brought up the bonus point with a brace after the restart. Pirates left it late but managed to rescue a point with a last-minute Alex Schwarz try, a score which saw the hosts leapfrog Ampthill up to fourth in the table.

Here's how the table looks after Round 6.
